Darth Vader has died
The original Darth Vader has died. Actor and bodybuilder Dave Prowse has passed away, aged 85.
Those of us growing up in Seventies Britain knew Prowse as a safety conscious super-hero, The Green Cross Code Man, extolling the virtues of looking both ways before crossing the road. I like to think Tufty was operating a control room inside his head. He described the character as the best role he ever had.
However, it seems his acting career started in the 1967 spoof Casio Royale, where he played Frankenstein's Monster. He reprised that role in a couple of Hammer movies. On tv, he variously appeared in The Saint, Doctor Who, Space: 1999 and others. I have to confess a soft spot for his brief appearance in the movie version of Callan. His hired muscle character has a fatal encounter with the reluctant assassin.

The Return of Doctor Who
Outside of time and space as we know it, plans were laid for a radio series chronicling the adventures of Doctor Who. Specifically, it would star Peter Cushing playin a version of The Doctor that fell somewhere between the character he played on the Silver Screen and William Hartnell's abrasive curmudgeon. Serious plans it seems, because Malcolm Hulke even got to script it.
Ultimately, production fell, but decades later some engaging folk have had a crack at the opening instalment, so you can judge it on its merits.
I rather enjoyed it. Try for yourself.1/2 Now released into the wild, the new re-recording of Journey Into Time, Malcolm Hulke's opening episode of the abandoned 1967 Peter Cushing/Dr Who radio series! https://t.co/WNxtXQOp0j pic.twitter.com/7K9souuL1Q

Dr Loutherbourg’s Eidophusikon
The stage on which the Eidophusikon was represented, was little more than six feet wide, and about eight feet in depth; yet such was the painter’s knowledge of effect and scientific arrangement, and the scenes which he described were so completely illusive, that the space appeared to recede for many miles, and his horizon seemed as palpably distant from the eye, as the extreme termination of the view would appear in nature.
