Arthur Kochler, wood identification specialist of the Department of Agriculture, says the piece of wood he is holding is 12,000,000 years old. It is a fragment from a fossil log of redwood, 7 feet thick, found by workmen of the Reclamation Service buried 150 feet below the bed of the Yakima River in Washington.

 

The log was petrified, buried in the lava flow from volcanoes which have been dead for millions of years, 11/30

Smithsonian rebuilding gigantic animal. Washington, D.C., March 24

 

1938. One of the largest animals which ever walked the earth has been discovered and is being rebuilt by the Smithsonian Institution. Dr. Charles Gilmor, Paleontologist, found in western Utah the bones of a Sauropod,-a species of the dinosaurs which ruled the earth 80,000,000 to 150,000,000 years ago. Dr. Gilmore is pictured fitting the 32-foot tail of the monster together, 3/24/38
